There are two state veterans' cemeteries in Massachusetts (Agawam and Winchendon) where eligible veterans can be buried at no cost. There will be a nominal fee for the burial of spouses and eligible dependents.
The Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Winchendon contains 210 acres of wooded, rolling hills. Winchendon is 70 miles northwest of Boston and 45 miles north of Worcester. As of June 2015, approximately 2,600 veterans and their dependents have been interred at the Winchendon Cemetery.
The Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Agawam contains 61 acres of land. The cemetery opened in 2001 and as of June 2015, has interred approximately 9,400 veterans and their dependents.
