On Wednesday, May 30th, the Youth Center held our 29th annual Youth Appreciation Day to recognize the middle school and high school youth who have spent their time volunteering in some capacity with us the past year. Each award given at this event is named after a person who has had a significant impact on the Youth Center, and each recipient is thoughtfully chosen by our staff based on specific criteria, with much thought given to the namesake of each award.
The biggest awards of the night, given to our stars of volunteerism each year, are the Michael Ventresca Memorial Awards. These are awarded to 2-5 individuals per year who have had the most impact on the Youth Center and the community service activities we participate in. This year’s Michael Ventresca recipients were Haley Gove and Sydney Pensavalli of Core 4, Maggie Mottolo of Helping Hands, and Haley Fay of Junior/Senior Youth Council. See below for the full list of this year's award winners, along with some pictures from the event!
Along with the awards ceremony, we have a guest speaker each year, speaking to our youth on the importance of giving back, and we finish off the night with t-shirts, gifts, and a cookout for all attendees! Our 2018 speaker was Michael Gorman, founder of the Movement Family, who gave a powerful speech to our group on paying it forward, always giving back, and trusting the process. Youth Appreciation Day was a very successful event for the Youth Center and we thank all of our middle school and high schoolers who donate their time to us each year!
