Joseph N. Hermann Youth Center

YCpurpleskyIn 1993, five years after NAYRS was established, programs and services were being operated out of some eighteen sites throughout the town. It became apparent that in order to better serve the community, NAYRS would need a site to serve as a multipurpose youth center.

The Joseph N. Hermann Youth Center, Inc. was founded in 1993 specifically to help the town and NAYRS address this critical need. A partnership between the Joseph N. Hermann Youth Center Board, North Andover Youth & Recreation Services, and town officials has accomplished a great deal in this time, but not without the constant support from the community itself.

The parcel of land upon which the Youth Center would be built (with a value of $400,000) was donated by the Community Center, Inc. In the course of planning the Youth Center, it was found that project needs increased the total cost of construction and furnishing the Youth Center to $2,454,000. The town voted $975,000 of funds to be devoted to this project. The Joseph N. Hermann Youth Center Board raised the additional money in donations and pledges from individuals, foundations, corporations and special event fundraisers.

In the summer of 2000, the doors of the Joseph N. Hermann Youth Center were opened and the dream became a reality.

The Joseph N. Hermann Youth Center houses a regulation gymnasium, game room, rock climbing wall, weight room, kitchen, lounge, multipurpose room, computer room, outdoor basketball court, outside gathering areas, and administrative offices.
