Junior/Senior Youth Council Application

Junior/Senior Youth Council 2017-18

It was an amazing year for Junior/Senior Youth Council. This group of 24 ambitious and driven juniors and seniors completed what felt like a record breaking amount of projects and events. In the fall, they teamed up with the Freshmen/Sophomore group to run our annual High School Girls Powderpuff Tournament! They planned the tournament, got players and coaches to sign up, and executed a fantastic tournament, raising an impressive amount of money despite the rainy day. This tournament raises money every year for our Youth Council members to sponsor children in the the Youth Center's Holiday Gift Drive, which supports families in need during the holiday season. The two Youth Council groups were able to purchase gifts for 5 children in the Gift Drive, shopping for the presents themselves, along with wrapping and labeling.

Junior/Senior Youth Council also spent a lot of time this school year focusing on various volunteer events around the community; twice they helped out at the Franklin School Book Fair (once in the fall and once in the spring!), at the Matthew Harty Mito Classic, Franklin and Sargent School's Holiday Socials, served Thanksgiving dinner and Christmas Dinner at the Lawrence Boys and Girls Club, and volunteered at the Cor Unum Meal Center! Their main task throughout the winter season was planning the 2018 Teen Job Fair, which was held on Wednesday, March 21st at the YC with 22 local businesses and over 150 teens in attendance!

Junior/Senior Youth Council finished off the school year by coordinating Buddy Day with NAHS Special Education, which was an amazing morning at the high school track, running activities, snacking, and dancing with the high school's special education classes! Youth Council also held a Backyard Olympics "fun"raiser in the YC field, a bracket competition for middle school and high school students, who competed in spikeball, cornhole, kan jam, and volleyball, on a beautiful afternoon in late May!

This year's Junior/Senior Youth Council was an amazing group, who certainly made an impact in the North Andover and surrounding community. We wish our seniors good luck as they head off on their next phase of life, and know that they will continue to give back in whatever community they end up in!
