Team AK's Nothin' but Net 3 vs. 3 Tourney
2018 will be the first year that the Youth Center hosts Aaron Kenneally's Nothin' but Net 3 vs. 3 basketball tournament. Aaron had two seizures within a week when he was in 4th grade and was diagnosed with epilepsy at Boston Children’s Hospital. He was prescribed medicine which kept his condition in check until 7th grade. Between November and June during that school year, he suffered 15 violent seizures. It was during this time that Aaron was moved to the care of Dr. Phillip Pearl, Director of Epilepsy and Clinical Neurophysiology at Boston Children’s Hospital. Dr. Pearl worked with Aaron to find the right combination of medicine, nutrition, vitamins, and rest. After several months of testing and exams, Aaron’s condition had stabilized. Aaron has been seizure free for almost two years. Last year, Aaron organized a fundraiser at one of his middle school basketball games and raised $5,000 for the Epilepsy Foundation. After that event he applied and was selected as a National Youth Ambassador for Athletes vs. Epilepsy. In this role he helps educate others about epilepsy and how to respond to seizures and also organizes an annual fundraiser for the Epilepsy Foundation. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at the North Andover Youth Center and will include a 3 on 3 basketball tournament and raffles, with a goal of raising $10,000 for the Epilepsy Foundation.
