Downtown Shared Use Path

Various strategies outlined in the Town's Master Plan (2018) call for creating improved pedestrian connections, trails, and access to natural and recreational amenities.  The Downtown Improvements Master Plan, completed in 2021, based on significant public input, provides a concept for connecting Main Street to the historic mill area at High Street, while also traversing Sutton Pond (see image directly below).  It is envisioned that this trail/path would also connect to the existing Mills to Hills Trail on High Street, which runs to Weir Hill.

Downtown Path Concept

Shortly after the completion of the Downtown Improvements Master Plan, the Town engaged the services of engineering firm GPI to begin developing more advanced concepts for this path.  Based on internal conversations, prior planning documents, and input from immediate abutters/stakeholders, GPI developed initial conceptual designs for what is currently being conceived as a paved shared use path that could be enjoyed by pedestrians and cyclists alike.

Public Input / Community Engagement:

April 27, 2023:  The Town held its first public meeting for this project at the Senior Center.  GPI presented a slide deck that provided background and conceptual images for the shared use path.
